T-MOBILE CUSTOMERS TO RECEIVE PAYMENTS OF UP TO $25K NEXT MONTH FOLLOWING DATA BREACH – WHO QUALIFIES?

Payments from T-Mobile’s $350 million class action settlement are finally set to roll out in April 2025. The lawsuit stemmed from an August 2021 cyberattack that exposed the personal data of 76 million U.S. customers, including names, addresses, and Social Security numbers. While T-Mobile denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to resolve the case.

Eligible customers were notified in 2022, though many may have lost track since then. The amount each person receives depends on their losses from the breach. Those who provided documentation of expenses—such as credit monitoring costs, time spent freezing credit, or losses due to identity theft—can claim up to $25,000 in reimbursement. Others affected by the breach but without documented losses may receive a smaller payout, with general payments estimated at up to $25 (or up to $100 for California residents).

However, these figures are the maximum possible amounts, not guaranteed payouts. The settlement fund must also cover legal fees, administrative costs, and millions of claims. Priority goes to reimbursing direct losses, while remaining funds will be distributed on a “pro rata” basis, meaning final payments could be lower than expected—potentially even just a few dollars.
