$470,000 WORTH OF NVIDIA RTX 5090 GRAPHICS CARDS VANISH AT BRAZILIAN AIRPORT

Brazilian electronics distributor Oderço has reported that two pallets of Zotac Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards mysteriously disappeared at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo. The missing shipment is valued at approximately 2.5 million Brazilian reais ($470,000), raising concerns about cargo security and the handling of high-value electronics.

Oderço, an electronics and IT distributor with more than 38 years of experience, publicly disclosed the incident on Instagram after reportedly receiving no clear explanation about the shipment’s whereabouts. The company expressed frustration over the lack of information and is seeking answers about how such a valuable shipment could disappear from one of Brazil’s busiest airports.

The incident comes amid ongoing shortages and rising prices for Nvidia’s flagship RTX 5090 graphics cards. Originally launched with a suggested retail price of $1,999, the GPU has reportedly exceeded $5,000 at some retailers due to limited availability and strong demand. Nvidia recently denied rumors that RTX 5090 production had been discontinued but acknowledged continuing supply constraints.

Growing demand for powerful graphics processors, particularly for artificial intelligence development and high-performance computing, has increased the value of premium GPUs. These market conditions have also raised concerns about theft, shipping fraud and resale scams involving expensive graphics cards. Previous incidents have included RTX 5090 returns in which critical components, including GPU cores and memory modules, were allegedly removed before the products were sent back.

Additional concerns have emerged over Nvidia graphics card warranty identification labels, with some customers reporting that printed serial numbers can fade or become unreadable. Such issues may complicate warranty claims and product verification, particularly in the secondhand market.

Oderço continues to seek information regarding its missing shipment. The circumstances surrounding the disappearance remain unclear, and no confirmed explanation has been provided. The incident highlights the security challenges associated with transporting high-value computer hardware as demand for advanced graphics processors continues to grow.
