Apple unveiled a major security upgrade at WWDC 2026, introducing a new Apple Intelligence-powered feature designed to automatically strengthen weak or compromised passwords across supported accounts.
Currently, Safari and the Apple Passwords app can detect passwords that are weak, reused, or exposed in data breaches. While Apple has long warned users about password risks and suggested stronger alternatives, users still had to manually update their credentials. That is about to change.
With iOS 27, Apple is adding a new AI-driven capability that can proactively update eligible passwords without requiring users to take action. The feature leverages Apple Intelligence to identify vulnerable credentials and automatically replace them with stronger, more secure passwords when supported by participating websites and services.
According to Apple, the technology is powered by its next-generation Apple Foundation Models, which operate both on-device and through the company’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure. The company emphasized that privacy remains a core focus, with sensitive user data protected throughout the process.
In addition to password security enhancements, Apple also introduced a completely redesigned Siri experience powered by Apple Intelligence. The upgraded virtual assistant offers more natural conversations, improved understanding of personal context, broader knowledge capabilities, and enhanced awareness of on-screen content.
The new Siri can help users locate information from messages, emails, photos, and other apps while also answering web-based questions in a more intelligent and conversational manner. Apple has also expanded Visual Intelligence features and integrated advanced writing tools to create a more personalized AI experience across its ecosystem.
The automatic password management feature and enhanced Siri capabilities are expected to roll out alongside iOS 27 later this year, marking one of Apple’s biggest AI-powered security and productivity upgrades to date.
